The law firm of Smith, Dickey, Dempster, Carpenter & Harris, P.A. was founded by W. Ritchie Smith in 1978 when he opened his own law firm. Ritchie Smith remains of counsel to the firm. Ritchie Smith has been practicing law in Fayetteville, North Carolina since 1958. Pitt Dickey joined the firm in 1978. Allen Smith joined the firm in 1987. Andrew Dempster stepped down as a District Court Judge in Cumberland County and joined the firm in 1996. Jodi Carpenter joined the firm in 1998. Mark Harris joined the firm in 2003. We have offices in historic downtown Fayetteville located near the courthouse at 309 and 315 Person Street. Our firm serves southeastern North Carolina with branch offices in Lumberton, Sanford and Carthage, North Carolina.
The firm has deep roots in Cumberland County with the three senior partners graduating from local high schools. Members of the firm are involved in civic organizations, politics and churches. We know the law, our community and its leaders and will work hard on behalf of our clients to protect their legal rights in a professional manner to the utmost of our abilities within the ethical constraints of practicing law.
